Dear Parents and Students,
A warm welcome to K2! In K2, we strive to create a playful environment where all children feel safe, secure, happy and valued, where learning is an enjoyable and meaningful experience and every child has the chance to realise their full potential. Our aim is to establish a ‘Community of Learners’ as a grade, where the children have opportunities to collaborate across the classes and and parents are valued members of our K2, Infant and UWCSEA community.
Our K2 team are all very excited about the year ahead and look forward to getting to know your child and your family, and collaborating closely with you over the course of the year.
We will begin our year with an inquiry project into 'Me and My Community’. Our inquiry will focus on identifying the culture and community of K2 and explore the needs and responsibilities within our community. This community focused inquiry will develop the students relationships, responsibility and respect for ourselves, others and our environment. This unit that will provide children the opportunity to explore their thinking through various modes of expression ('The Hundred Languages') in an interdisciplinary way that supports the skills of collaboration, critical-thinking and self-management.
Some of the many highlights of the K2 year include Uniting Nations Day, Arts Festival, Spirit Days, Learning Shares and Student-led Conferences, not to mention our weekly Community Time, when the children have the choice to explore and play in any of the K2 learning spaces in collaboration with the K2 community.
During the year, K2 children participate in several service projects. Service is one of the five elements of our UWCSEA learning programme, and here in the Infant School, our Global Concern is Kuma Cambodia. Our local service is a home for elderly residents called ‘Happy Lodge’ and it is located nearby in the Tampines area. During Chinese New Year, the children are involved in the Infant Shoe Box Project, where together they donate gifts, bake treats and decorate their own wrapping paper for the shoe box gifts for the Happy Lodge community.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or queries, no matter how small. We look forward to welcoming you into our community and enjoying a wonderful year of learning together.
Kind regards,
Imogen Piccirilli
Head of K2
