VPN

Every student iPad will automatically have the GlobalProtect app to allow for school-level filtered internet at home. You do not need to do anything to setup the new VPN settings once you see the GlobalProtect app on the iPad but it does need to be kept installed. If GlobalProtect is deleted, you will not be able to connect to the internet on the iPad.

If the GlobalProtect app is deleted, it should reinstall automatically within 24 hours. It is also available in Self Service for manual installation.

The VPN app is fully automatic. When you join a network that is not 'BLS Managed' the connection to the VPN will turn on automatically. You DO NOT need to turn the VPN service on in Settings and, in fact, this can cause issues manually turning the VPN switch on.

Troubleshooting connection issues

To help diagnose issues, first try using the iPad on free wi-fi service at another location other than home. Try the library, Starbucks, etc. and see if the issue continues.

If you are able to connect at school and other locations but not at home the issue lies with your internet service provider or possibly a setting on the home wireless router. Disney Circle routers or routers with the Disney Circle feature can cause connection issues.

When attempting to use GlobalProtect on a computer running a software firewall, it is possible that a "Portal Error. Check version failed" error occurs if the firewall is blocking the GlobalProtect connection.

When disabling the firewall is not an option, the following two ports need to be allowed through for GlobalProtect to connect and work properly:

  • TCP/443 for the SSL communication

  • UDP/4501 for tunnel communication to the GlobalProtect Gateway

Local internet service providers (ISPs) support numbers:

  • BendBroadband: 541-382-5551

  • CenturyLink: 800-244-1111

  • Webformix: 541-385-8532

  • Yellowknife: 541-385-0111

  • Quantum Communication: 888-231-5308
