Timothy Activity 2

This activity would be designed as a resource for students intending to transfer from a junior college to a 4-year university. This would also be useful for academic advisors from both types of institutions.

The need in this case is to provide useful information in the form of guides and checklists  to help students intending to transfer as they navigate the process of transitioning from a junior college to a 4-year university. 

For this second stage of the project, the goal is to further develop and refine the towards the final products which are being designed to help guide 2-year college music majors as they begin the process of transferring to the four-year university of their choice. In keeping with the spirit of my experts, who have been giving feedback, a set of guidelines that will help navigate the process are being refined, and will eventually be made available to the upcoming sophomores who will be transferring after this year. To make this better available to them, these materials once refined and produced, will be made available through Google sites as either virtual or downloadable PDFs.

While this is not a music activity directly, this is a product that will be designed specifically for music majors, outlining the steps involved to transfer into a music department of a 4-year university.

At this point, word documents have been created, and the refinement process has begun.  Refining these documents has been accomplished by providing them to the experts, I interviewed for their feedback and further suggestions for revision.

Once completed, these documents will be exported to PDF format and uploaded to a Google site that will be created to house these documents and provide a central location for students to refer to during their transfer process.

As mentioned in the how sections, the materials need to include:

• Computer access to websites of both institutions 

• Access to lists of admissions procedures

• Curriculum guides for core music courses at both institutions

• Word processing software

• Ability to create fillable PDFs

Here is the most current version of the checklist.

1. Choose a 4-year  institution to research the general curriculum for core music coursework (ie. music theory, aural skills, piano proficiency) In this case, I will also use the University of Texas at Arlington.

2. Choose a 2-year  institution to research the general curriculum for core music coursework (ie. music theory, aural skills, piano proficiency) In this case I will utlize my own institution, Navarro College.

3. Create a side by side comparison list that shows the curriculum from both institutions. 

4. Highlight any differences in curriculum that should be made aware to the student to prepare them for any deficiencies they may encounter when transferring to that 4-year institution.

5. Ues this side by side comparison to create a PDF that can be accessed or downloaded that will inform the potential transfer student of any obstacles they may encounter when tranferring credits between institutions.

These deliverables will be designed to be available in multiple forms and on multiple media to allow for usage by a braod range of students with functionality for e-reading applications and language translation software.

Enabling students to navigate the transfer process themselves helps to provides them with opportunities to grow as young adults and will enable them to build their sefl-sufficiency and self-efficacy.
