Creating a “zen” place for schoolwork at home is for tweens and adolescents, but younger kids and adults may also like to try this activity.
Find a Space
First the student will find a place somewhere in their house they can call their own for homework or even practice time. This may be in their bedroom, the office, the guest room, the possibilities are endless.
Collect Items
Use items that you find calming. For some people that means a stuffed animal or favorite picture, for others that means a lamp that provides soft lighting and a few plants. Perhaps a couple of succulent plants, or fun lights. Some may enjoy a favorite mantra made into a poster or pictures of their friends and family.
The ability to successfully regulate one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in different situations— effectively managing stress, controlling impulses, and motivating oneself. The ability to set and work toward personal and academic goals. (CASEL, 2006). They will learn how to process their emotions and manage stress through these self-practices and help with stress management. I think this activity will be very useful for my class and other classes. Secondary students are in the middle adolescence phase. Many middle adolescents have more arguments with their parents as they struggle for more independence. They may spend less time with family and more time with friends. They are very concerned about their appearance, and peer pressure may peak at this age. I think all of us have had emotions and struggles through this pandemic, no matter how big or small.
