Population:
Older Adults experiencing social isolation in Jacksonville, Illinois and surrounding area.
Age Group
Approximately 65-85 years old
The Plan:
Provide senior adults who attend or used to attend Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church (LABC) in Jacksonville, IL with musical resources to help combat social isolation. These resources will include a mixture of technology and physical handouts to ensure that everything is accessible and helps reach the goal of promoting social engagement. Some potential resources will include playlists of meaningful songs and tutorials on how to access songs on the internet.
Rationale:
According to the CDC, loneliness, and social isolation in older adults is a significant public health risk. Living alone, the loss of family and friends, illness, and a global pandemic on top of all of that puts seniors at a much higher risk of mental and physical health crisis. To make this experience successful I would implement the techniques of Universal Design for Learning and multiple means of representation as ways to make my resources assessable for all participants.
