My project will be targeted towards music therapy students completing practicum work at the non-profit Build Inclusion. Build Inclusion works with transition-aged jobseekers with disabilities. I will create session plans utilizing Universal Design for Learning that MT students that targets goals and objectives specific to jobseekers. It will include three music therapy interventions and offer possible adaptations.
Ideally, I would like to start my own practice once board certified. I would like to partner with Build Inclusion and offer services to jobseekers and partner with an equine therapist to offer music assisted equine therapy for the other part of my business. For my project, I am going to focus on the Build Inclusion aspect. My service learning project will help with current and future MT practicum students at Build Inclusion. This resource could also be beneficial in the future when I speak to Office of Vocational Rehab (OVR) counselors and try to get music therapy as a billable service. Having examples of music therapy interventions specific to this population to show the OVR counselors would be beneficial in explaining why this should be a billable service. It would also benefit the jobseekers.
I have worked at Build Inclusion for almost three years and am a full time caregiver to a teenager with developmental and intellectual disabilities who is beginning to work on job-readiness skills.
I would like to interview the music therapists who have already led music therapy sessions at Build Inclusion to see what interventions they used and what goals they addressed. I would also like to speak with current and past MT practicum students at Build Inclusion. Lastly, interviewing the jobseekers to see what their reactions to music therapy are would be most beneficial.
