Topic: Post-Secondary Planning & Mock Voting

Goal Statement: Students will learn about different colleges in Iowa, as well as, participate in a mock election.

ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors Standard (s): M 4: Understanding the post-secondary education and lifelong learning are necessary for long term career success. B-SS 9:Demonstrate social maturity and behaviors appropriate to the situation and environment.

Materials:

• Your Course to College Guide Booklet (students can take these home)

• Quiz Show Slides at bottom of page -

• Laptop

Procedures:

1. Have students use laptops to vote in mock election - link above

2. Pass out Your Course to College Guide Booklets

3. Give the students a few minutes to look over booklet, highlight the following:

• p. 10-13, grade level checklists, information on choosing a college/major, types of colleges, admission process

• p. 21-37, paying for college, FAFSA, scholarships, grants etc.

• p. 49-79, detailed information for all colleges & universities in Iowa broken down by regents, private, community colleges, other

4. Open slides below discussing quiz questions as a group before clicking for the answer.
