Currently, the Center is refining its hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) and gasification technologies—innovative processes that transform agricultural and organic waste into clean, coal-like fuels and synthesis gas—that are geared for pilot scale production. These emerging systems utilize agricultural wastes by turning them into a clean solid fuel that provides low-carbon energy alternatives and lessen dependence on imported fuels, all the while helping reduce waste pollution. Both are being readied for public demonstration, showcasing how research and development can yield real benefits for industries and communities seeking affordable and sustainable energy solutions.
ILIGAN CITY — As the demand for cleaner and more sustainable energy grows, the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) continues to advance technologies that link innovation with community well-being. Through the Center for Energy Research and Technology, the institute is refining renewable energy systems that convert waste into valuable resources for a greener future.
In parallel with these R&D efforts, MSU-IIT continues to expand the impact of its earlier innovation, the Cleanergy Stove. On December 18 and 20, 2024, the Center, led by Dr. Alexander O. Mosqueda, together with the WE CARE Office of the OVCPA, held turnover ceremonies of these fabricated stoves to local barangay units in Barangays Tipanoy and Mandulog, Iligan City. The events marked another milestone in the institute’s mission to deliver practical, science-based solutions to local communities. The Cleanergy Stove provides households with cleaner, more efficient, and accessible energy, reducing reliance on firewood and charcoal while helping curb carbon emissions and deforestation.
Through these ventures, MSU-IIT reinforces its commitment to science for social good—bridging research, sustainability, and community resilience to power a cleaner, more inclusive energy future for the Philippines.
