The WE CARE Office hosted a special and informative event on March 19, 2024, in the Boardroom located on the 3rd floor of CEBA, dedicated to women’s health. This important gathering not only coincided with the celebration of Women’s Month but also served the critical purpose of raising awareness about breast and reproductive health issues that affected many women.
During this event, participants had the opportunity to engage in discussions, receive valuable information, and learn about wellness screenings that were vital for maintaining health and well-being. We encouraged everyone to attend and take part in this empowering experience.
The event was open to all MSU-IIT Constituents, MSU retirees, and Community Partners. We looked forward to seeing many there as we came together to promote awareness and support for women’s health!
The Kolorkabildo project involves female inmates in Iligan City and children in conflict with the law who are currently confined at the Hope Center in Iligan City, receiving primary support from the WE CARE Office and the Gender and Development Center through the Department of Philosophy and Humanities.
Kolorkabildo is a transformative tool that introduces art as a primary means of understanding socio-cultural diversity among the targeted participants. Consequently, the participants connect and gain a broader understanding of others’ personal struggles and life histories. This project embraces the concepts of collaboration and tolerance through various art forms, including music, movement, visual arts, and theater, as part of their psychosocial relief and transformation while serving at the facility.
The initiative reflects the creative use of the arts as a therapeutic tool and a forum for thought-provoking discussions. Kolorkabildo translates as "engaging" or "acquainting" via the arts. By providing skill sets, specifically in the arts and handicrafts, to women inmates currently housed at the Iligan City Jail Female Dormitory Facility and children in conflict with the law at the Hope Center, Barangay Santiago, Iligan City, the project, now in its fifth edition, aims to bring about social change.
In addition to using art as a vehicle for healing and transformation, this year's Kolorkabildo will also serve as a source of income and skill development, giving women PDLs the chance to learn new skills and become more knowledgeable as creative participants. As a result, the project will offer training seminars in sewing, painting, beadwork, and handicrafts specifically for PDL women.
