Despite extremely cold winters, the warm temperatures and long summer days promote tree growth. The Interior is part of the boreal forest, which is the largest terrestrial biome on earth. In North America, the boreal forest (in green on the map) stretches across most of Canada and Alaska. The plants and animals are very similar across this region.
