The Interior has a climate of extremes. It is the coldest region in winter, yet the hottest region in summer. Both the coldest (-80° at Prospect Creek) and highest (100° at Fort Yukon) recorded Alaskan temperatures were in the Interior. The Interior is also relatively dry, receiving under 12" of annual precipitation.
