Good Morning! I hope each of you are having a great week. I just wanted to let you know that our Summer FLEX program registration will open on Monday, May 8th on the district website.
FLEX Virtual classes are a GREAT way to SUPPLEMENT a student’s high school course load each year. These courses do not REPLACE middle school summer school- this is an opportunity for students wanting to earn additional high school credits…
FLEX Virtual classes are NOT easy, and they require a lot of self-motivation on the part of the student, and the ability for the student to work independently.
FLEX Virtual classes are calculated into a student's overall GPA - which directly impacts scholarship opportunity/college admissions- so do not have them enter into this lightly.
FLEX Summer virtual classes (8 weeks) teach the same curriculum as the high school semester courses (18 weeks)- students must be prepared to complete the same work in the allotted time frame, and without face to face daily instruction.
IF you are interested in signing up to take a summer course through Horry County Virtual Schools - please read and complete the attached instructions.
*Rising 9th graders are eligible for the following courses. These are the only courses offered to rising 9th graders:)
Physical Education I -experience first-hand the many benefits of regular physical activity, proper nutrition, and sound decision making. Students will assess their current physical condition and define personal goals. Students will apply fitness training principles to their workouts to enhance their improvement in health-related and skill-related areas of fitness. Students will maintain a workout log to track their physical activity each week and assess their progress towards meeting their goals. Additional course topics will challenge students to be an educated consumer, manage stress, choose nutritious foods, make healthy lifestyle choices, be an effective member of a team, and influence others in their community in a positive way. Projects students will complete will challenge them to seek solutions for issues facing teens in today’s culture.
Fundamentals of Computing -designed to introduce students to the field of computer science through an exploration of engaging and accessible topics. Through creativity and innovation, students will use critical thinking and problem solving skills to implement projects that are relevant to students’ lives. They will create a variety of computing artifacts while collaborating in teams. Students will gain a fundamental understanding of the history and operation of computers, programming, and web design. Students will also be introduced to computing careers and will examine societal and ethical issues of computing.
