Hello TOMS 6th-Grade Students and Parents/Guardians,
The school year is in full swing, so that means it is time for us to share information with you to help you and your student navigate middle school and begin planning for the future! We have created a presentation for both students and parents/guardians to watch that we hope will help answer many questions that you have as well as provide a basis for further discussion (link below titled '6th Grade Goal Setting Presentation'). Students will have the opportunity to watch the presentation in school during Advisory in October, but they may benefit from watching it again with a parent/guardian and/or talking through some of the information. A link to the PowerPoint Presentation is also included below so that you can access all of the links.
COMING SOON.....
During the month of February, 6th grade teachers will share the following PowerPoint Presentation with their Advisory students in order for them to request their discovery courses for the 2025-26 school year.
Students will be instructed to use their PowerSchool account to access the online scheduling program called Class Choice. Teachers will have each student's log-in credentials 'just in case' they forgot or misplaced them.
Parents/Guardians are encouraged to talk with their student about their discovery course requests. The deadline to make changes to requests is March 21st.
A few reminders regarding discovery requests:
every student (with the exception of students who are scheduled in 2 year-long discovery courses) will be automatically scheduled for Physical Education.
Students who wish to be considered for Physical Education during both semester 1 and semester 2 should choose it as their first choice. Only students who have actively participated and followed instructions regarding behavior and appropriate dress in Physical Education will be considered for a second semester of Physical Education.
Students who require a discovery course to support their educational needs will be scheduled for those courses by their IEP or MLL case manager.
The presentation highlights the discovery courses that are projected for the 2025-26 school year. Please keep in mind that these courses are subject to change based on student interest and staffing.
