Launching for the 2026-2027 school year, St. James High School Middle College provides Shark students with the opportunity to earn their high school diploma while pursuing advanced college credit or industry certification and apprenticeships, leading to a career in a high-needs technical field.
Students must apply to a part of the Middle College program.

The Middle College Academic Insitute is designed to provide highly motivated students with an opportunity to earn up to 60 hours advanced college/university credit through a combination of Advanced Placement coursework and dual-enrollment coursework provided in partnership with The University of South Carolina - Upstate.
Students in the Academic Institute will also have access to preparation services for college admissions exams, opportunities for volunteer service in the school and community, and unique enrichment opportunities, such as guest speakers and field trips.

The Middle College Technical Scholars Institute is designed to provide students with training opportunities and apprenticeships in high-needs, technical skills areas. Through partnerships with Horry Georgetown Technical College and Apprenticeship Carolina, students will work toward the requirements for a South Carolina high school diploma and a career-ready certification.
