Prerequisites: Students must meet the criteria established by the South Carolina Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA) for admission to the Teacher Cadet Program. This includes a minimum 3.0 GPA and submission of three teacher recommendation forms.
Note: This is a dual credit course; Students will earn 1 unit of high school credit and 3 college hours through Coastal Carolina University
This course is designed to familiarized high school students with the role of the teacher and with the professional of teaching. Topics addressed include an overview of the teaching profession, curriculum, instruction, environment, students, resources, and trends and pressures facing educators today. Students will participate in an internship at a local elementary or middle school and must provide their own transportation.

Students who wish to pursue a post-secondary degree in education will experience a hands-on laboratory approach for developing computer literacy skills and for developing skills necessary to use instructional technology to enhance classroom instruction.

Students will be transported to and from campus to participate in a Bible study course provided through a local church.
Through an agreement with Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC), dual-enrollment courses are available for eligible students to earn both high school and college credit. These courses will be taught at the Grand Strand campus of HGTC, and students are responsible for their own transportation.
Although course offerings vary from year to year, in previous years students have enrolled in variety of English and Mathematics courses, as well as Psychology and Sociology.
Students and parents should discuss course offerings for the 2024-2025 school year, enrollment, and the cost dual-credit courses with their guidance counselor. Students and parents must meet with a counselor prior to enrolling in dual-credit course.

To be scheduled for late arrival and/or early release, students must meet the following criteria:
1. Classification as a senior
2. Have earned or are scheduled to take enough credits to graduate in June 2025
3. 2.0 GPA or better for the previous semester
4. Have met or be on pace to meet South Carolina's requirements for college and/or career-readiness before graduation
Students meeting these criteria must complete an application for early release and submit it to their guidance counselor.
