Just like the human body, the earth also has levels of organization, aka things going from smallest to largest.
Organism
Organism
One individual of one species.
Example- 1 starfish
Population
Population
Two or more of the same species living in the same area.
Example- Multiple starfish
Community
Community
Multiple different species living in the same area. These are all living (biotic) organisms.
Example: All the starfish, damselfish, corals, anemones and algae in one area.
Ecosystem
Ecosystem
All of the living (biotic) and non-living (abiotic) in one area.
Example: The starfish, the damselfish, the corals, the alage, the water, the rocks, the air, the sunlight.
Biome
Biome
An area with the same climate. Made of multiple ecosystems.
Example: All of the reefs in the Great Barrier Reef
Biosphere
Biosphere
Everywhere on Earth that life can exist.
