Reviewed in Monitoring Test Completion, teachers should always download test session summary details (PDF or data file) before ending the test session to keep track of who has tested (and still needs to test).
Other scenarios which may arise are addressed below:
https://connection.nwea.org/s/article/join-session-missing-name?language=en_US
If the student's status is anything other than Awaiting Student, their name will not appear when they join the session, because the test session doesn't see that the student is eligible to rejoin.
Proceed with the steps below according to the student's status. If the student is not listed, skip to the Check the student is listed section below. If you get an error when changing the status, skip to the Refresh the proctor console section below.
Suspended, completed, or terminated:
Select the student in the test session.
From the Select Action menu, choose Test Again.
The student's status should automatically change to Awaiting Student.
The student should now be able to rejoin the session.
Paused or testing:
Select the student in the test session.
From the Select Action menu, choose Suspend.
The student's status should automatically change to Suspended.
Select the student again in the test session.
From the Select Action menu, choose Test Again.
The student's status should automatically change to Awaiting Student.
The student should now be able to rejoin the session.
Confirmed or To Be Confirmed:
Select the student in the test session.
From the Select Action menu, choose Do Not Confirm.
The student's status should automatically change to Awaiting Student.
The student should now be able to rejoin the session.
In some cases, your computer may have lost its connection to our servers, or your browser may have timed out the connection. If the steps above to change the student's status do not work, take the following steps on the proctor's computer:
Navigate away from the test session by clicking the Home link at the top of the page. Note that this will not interfere with student testing.
Select Manage Test Sessions.
Click Return to Testing.
Check the student's status and follow the appropriate steps above.
If the student still cannot find their name, and you have verified that the student's status is Awaiting Student, try the following:
From the student sign-on screen, click the refresh button next to the arrow.
Have the student close and reopen the testing browser or app and try again.
Move the student to another device.
If the student's name is not in the list, add the student to the test session:
Select Add More Students.
Use the search filters to find the student and click Search.
In the search results window, select the student and click Add Students.
Scroll to the bottom of the page to view the Student List. Verify that the student has been added and click Save and Return to Testing.
Proctors may answer questions about test directions or procedures. (For example, a K-1 teacher can explain how to select an answer on an iPad.)
Proctors are never allowed to answer any questions related to the content of the test itself.
If a student asks a question that you are not permitted to answer, you may respond, for example, “I can’t answer that for you; just do the best you can.” Unless specifically directed to do so by test administration procedures, proctors and campus personnel are NOT allowed to do the following:
translate test questions or selections into another language (except sign language) (You are allowed to translate the test directions, but not the questions or selections themselves.)
rephrase or add information to test questions
assist students with responses to any test items
Make-up Testing
Schools must offer make-up opportunities for all MAP assessments to students who were absent on the scheduled assessment day within the designated testing window. Make-up testing should occur as soon as possible and not wait until later in the testing window. When providing make-up testing opportunities, schools must maintain proper testing conditions to ensure that the test data is valid and reliable.
Students Who Become Sick During a Test
Make-up testing opportunities should also be provided for a student who becomes sick and leaves campus during the test. If the student did not complete the assessment, the student test should be suspended and the student should complete the test upon returning to school within the testing window.
Suspended Tests
MAP will not automatically submit a test for a student. The student must complete and submit the needed MAP assessments for each round of testing. Below shows the fastest way for a teacher to find which tests have been suspended so the teacher can have the student complete their MAP assessment.
It is the campus and teacher responsibility that all students are properly administered their MAP Growth assessment during the testing windows. Teachers should not wait until the end of a window to begin testing. Teachers should utilize the Proctor Console and Test Session Summary to ensure all students have tested.
A rapid guess means the student answered well below the average response time measured by NWEA for each test question. The response is so fast that the student could not have viewed the question completely.
By helping students stay engaged with their test, you help ensure the assessment will better represent the areas you can help with the most. Before testing, clarify with students the purpose of MAP Growth and the importance of taking time on every test question. During testing, check the rapid-guessing alerts on the Proctor console.
Goal setting, active test proctoring, and an appropriate testing environment are the best ways to ensure students are set up for success during MAP testing. To maximize instructional time, MAP retesting is not encouraged unless proctors are confident of a different outcome based on a specific set of criteria. The following are reasons a retest may be requested:
The Class Profile Report indicates the student rapid-guessed on 30% or more of the total test questions. In this case, a valid test does exist. Retests are not required but permitted if time allows within the testing window, otherwise the test will not be reset. Please refer to our Rapid Guessing and When Retesting is Required document for more details.
The student was not given the appropriate accommodations. In this case, a valid test may or may not exist and retest may be required if time allows within the testing window.
Other. Various issues may arise that warrant a retest. Feel free to reach out to your Campus MAP Coordinator or C&I to discuss.
Once C&I resets a test, the teacher will need to select "Test Again" in the proctor console:
Proctors should pause student tests for breaks, including lunch breaks. Refer to the Proctor Quickstart or Proctor Testing Tips and Troubleshooting for more information. If teachers are unclear whether to pause or suspend, consult with their Campus MAP Coordinator.
