IIMPORTANT: Text-to-Speech (TTS) on MAP Growth
Text-to-Speech (TTS) is available on Grades 2+ MAP Growth assessments in Math, Reading, Science, and Language Usage for students who meet the criteria below.
Students who may use TTS:
Any student in Grades 2+ with a documented need for reading support in an IEP, 504 Plan, LPAC documentation, or RtI paperwork
All Grade 2nd and 3rd grade Math students, since this support is available to Grade 3 students as an accessibility feature on STAAR
TTS is not automatically enabled. The teacher/proctor must individually turn on TTS for each eligible student when setting up the MAP testing session.
Refer to the HCISD Proctor Guide or MAP Proctor Quick Start for directions on enabling this support.
TTS for RLA/English Teachers: For MAP Growth Reading, teachers must select the answer choices, question directions, and questions/prompts ONLY. Under no circumstances is an RLA teacher allowed to select “assets such as reading passages.” See the image below for what may be selected.

TTS for Other Subjects: For the MAP Growth Math (including Algebra, Geometry, etc.), Science, and Language tests, teachers may select “assets such as reading passages” in addition to answer choices, question directions, and questions/prompts. This will ensure that charts and graphs are read to students. Grade 2 and 3 Math teachers should turn on TTS for all students.

Additional Embedded Supports Available to All Students
Non-Embedded Supports and Accommodations
These are supports that may be provided while students take MAP Growth tests. They do not need to be assigned. They are provided locally by the teacher or proctor of the test. You can document these were provided on the accommodations section of the MAP test, but clicking a non-embedded support on MAP does not provide the support. It merely documents for the teacher what was provided while testing.
Assist with directions: Teachers can read directions to students. Sign directions for deaf students. Translate directions orally. Simplify language in directions. Clarify directions. Highlight words in directions. (All Students)
Breaks & Additional Time: Students can take breaks, when needed to reduce cognitive fatigue. This may result in additional time needed to complete assessment. MAP is an untimed assessment and students can take the assessment over multiple days. (All Students)
Focus Tools: Tools and aids required to minimize distractions for students such as a study carrel, fidget tools, or sticky notes to move on the screen. (All Students)
Scratch paper: Students can use blank paper to take notes or solve problems. (All Students)
Test in a separate setting: Individual test setting or small group test setting. (All Students)
Dictionaries are available for Reading MAP Growth. Bilingual dictionaries are available for all tests. (All Students)
Calculators: Teachers may provide a four-function calculator to students for use on the test if documented in IEP or 504 paperwork. Students are required to utilize the calculators provided in the MAP assessment system. Proctors may not provide additional calculators for student use while MAP testing other than the four-function calculator. (Only students in 5th-12th grade with documented accommodations in their IEP or 504 paperwork. Calculators are not allowed on MAP in grades K-4.)
Dictate Responses: Students can dictate responses to a scribe. (Students with these documented accommodations in their IEP or 504 paperwork.)
Point to Responses: Students can point to responses to a scribe. (Students with these documented accommodations in their IEP or 504 paperwork.)
Supplemental Aids: Place Value charts, Hundred charts, etc. Proctors are not allowed to provide Math STAAR Charts to students. (Students with these documented accommodations in their IEP,504, or RTI paperwork.)
