Screeners are a critical and necessary step in making informed decisions about how to meet the unique needs of each and every student. When we don’t screen, we miss opportunities to enrich students' learning or wait for students to fail to begin providing intervention.

Why do we have to have screeners when we test all the time?
Identify students in need of enrichment/acceleration or who are at risk for poor learning and behavior outcomes and provide an indicator of system effectiveness.

Screeners are a critical and necessary step in making informed decisions about how to meet the unique needs of each and every student.
Supportive Community universal screening is designed to identify students who need additional support or services as determined by risk factors for poor learning, behavior, wellness, and mental health outcomes.
Our district has contracted with The Center for Educational Effectiveness to use the Educator Effectiveness Survey (ESS) Student SEL Screener. The SEL screener consists of 20 items that measure student perception on 1) Belonging & Identity, 2) Academic Behavior, 3) Emotional Behavior, and 4) Social Behavior and takes 5 to 10 minutes to administer. Thresholds are set to identify Tier III (Top 5% concern) and Tier II (Top 20% concern) within the student population.
The SEL screener will be administered in early fall and mid-spring.
