Personal Leadership Platform
The personal leadership platform is your brand, your USP (unique selling point). Without a PLP, as a leader, you lack understanding of what you stand for, why you stand for it, and where you're taking your followers.
Major Points
Your vision, mission and core values have to be aligned to create a clear purpose.
Importance to Teacher Leadership
Teachers' mission and vision have to align with school in order to best serve students.
Leaders are responsible for determining the direction of their mission and vision.
I have the most fulfilling career, and I truly think I'm meant to be a teacher. But, this lesson was a bit of a wake up call for me. This entire journey has made me question why I am where I am and why I do what I do-- both as a leader and simply as a professional. I made a lot of decisions that led me to education in early adulthood-- and I'm still reconciling those decisions with the vision I had for my life (let me tell you, this is not where I saw my life going). This lesson reminded me that in order to be an effective leader, I have to have a clear vision and direction, something I am definitely still working on. Throughout this year in TAL I have had to take a hard look at why I am doing something, and does that align to my purpose and vision.
I am still working on my mission statement. I can see myself as a leader but I am still trying to figure out my purpose and vision for the future. Until those two things are clear to me, I will not be able to have a true mission statement.
