At the recent Dacula High School Teacher Appreciation game, several of DMS's finest were honored by members of the softball team. Mrs. Lockhart, Msgt. Mumpfield, Mr. Seo, and Mr. Tuthill were all brought out on the field by their former students and recognized for their importance in that player's life. We're so proud of all they do everyday for their students!
A school calendar guides the operations of the school district; it includes days when students and staff are in school and out of school. This year, GCPS is asking students, staff, and parents to review the four (4) available calendar options and vote on the calendar of your choice. You will be able to vote only one time.
Each calendar option includes two (2) school year calendars: 2024-2025 and 2025-2026.
Visit the GCPS website to review each option carefully before casting your vote and find answers to frequently asked questions.
The survey to cast your vote was emailed to all GCPS students, parents, and staff on Wednesday, September 20. The email will come from Gwinnett County Public Schools; the address is noreply@qemailserver.com. You will confirm your identity by entering the email when you click on the link you were sent.
Voting on school calendars will close on October 22, 2023, at 11:59 p.m.
Students MUST have their Chromebooks and chargers with them at school for testing.
Please also remember to fully charge the device before coming to school to avoid any issues with testing.

Dear Parents:
This letter serves to notify you that Dacula Middle School will conduct our annual screening for scoliosis on 11/01/2023. The screening is done yearly for students in 6th and 8th grades as required by Georgia State Law and mandated by the Georgia Department of Public Health. The screening is done to identify students who may have scoliosis, an abnormal curvature of the spine. Scoliosis affects one to two percent of the adolescent population. If the condition is detected early and appropriately treated, progressive spine deformity can be prevented.
The procedure for screening is a simple process in which the screener (nurse, physical education teacher or trained volunteer) looks at the child’s back, in the standing position and as they bend forward, for any possible abnormal curvature. Boys and girls are screened separately. Girls should wear a sports bra or bathing suit top that allows the screener to see their back.
In the case of a suspected curvature, you will be notified by the Department of Public Health and referred for secondary screening. This does not mean that your child has scoliosis only that further evaluation by a health care provider or the Department of Health is warranted.
If your child has already been screened by a health care provider or you do not want your child screened at school, you must submit the Department of Public Health Form 4400 linked below to the school no later than (date before screening date) if you have not already submitted it.
Sincerely,
Charisse Deramus
Assistant Principal
Dacula Middle School
For safety reasons, morning car rider students should not exit their vehicles until the first bell rings at 8:55am. Students are not allowed to enter the building until that time as there is no staff supervision available.
Students needing to be dropped off prior to the morning bell must use the bus lanes and enter the cafeteria up until 8:35am. After that point, all traffic must go through and line up in the car rider lanes at the front of the building.
Thank you for your cooperation and attention to this important safety issue!

● making loud disruptive noises of any kind
● blocking aisles, entrances, or exits in any manner
● engaging in any form of sexual misconduct

Immediate suspensions for the remainder of the school year will be issued to students who fight or threaten to fight on library property, who harass or threaten library staff or other customers, bring drugs or alcohol onto library property, or engage in other illegal activity.
Caregivers can ensure that their students retain access to the library by setting expectations for behavior after school and by working proactively with library staff when issues arise.
