While scrolling through Pinterest one day, I came across a photo that immediately made me think, 'Wow, I could create something sinister from this.'
I was mainly inspired by the January 2025 Californian wildfires and their sensationalized media coverage. I saw many posts on Twitter blaming AI and large tech companies for the fires, suggesting their contributions to environmental degradation, pollution, and climate change will only worsen such events.
So, this piece is connected to my sustained investigation, which is about the advancements and progression of society and their consequences (either good or bad). I've focused on the negative consequences, for the most part.
This piece is about although we've progressed significantly with AI and technology—largely driven by wealthy companies—these companies are, in fact, responsible for polluting the Earth and contributing to climate change. The recent Californian wildfires are proof of this, and such events are only going to worsen.
I was also inspired by a post featuring a wildfire in the background with text saying, "At Least the Billionaires Are Getting Richer."
I apologize for stating I would have two pieces ready for this deadline. Mock trial drained me significantly. They assigned me another role THE NIGHT before our real trial (when usually we have 4 weeks to prep), and we lost one of our lawyers because he had to take on a witness role. Another teammate and I had to assume his roles THE NIGHT BEFORE AHH. It was a hard time, but we managed to "steal a ballot" from Webster Groves, so yay!
I understand it's not a valid excuse, but at least it's over oh em gee. That's the last of my extracurricular activities (except for FBLA state with Michaela in mid-April). That's some time away, so I'll be creating a lot of art woot woot it's going to be fun and unreal
I really like this piece and wish I could make it a painting. I want to touch up the hand, city, and wildfire, but I don't know how to paint cityscapes or forests well. However, I already have my next piece planned and am excited to start it :) I think I'll paint.
