The four social studies disciplines on the PRAXIS CKT are:
History- Some of the content within the history review involves chronology and what it is/how it works, various sources including primary and secondary, contribution of classical civilizations, characteristics of Indigenous peoples, Europeans exploration, thirteen colonies, American independence and state government. Some others include the U.S. during the nineteenth century like westward expansion, slavery, immigration, civil war, reconstruction, and the gilded age. The U.S. during the twentieth and twenty-first century is also discussed, some main points include World War I, 19th amendment, Great depression, WWII, and other American history events. When going back to test over these topics, I need to remember to study some of the amendments, some of the main historical events, and some of the major themes throughout American history.
Economics- Discusses that resources are limited and is a study of resources, choices, production, consumption, and transfer of wealth. Some main concepts are wants and needs, Macro and micro productions, goods & services, Trading (Supply and demand), understanding purpose of earning, saving, spending money, How business works, understanding economic patterns. I think that before taking this test, I really need to study the definitions of some of the business words, some patterns in economy and what they mean, and also how to show some of these definition or topics on graphs or visually.
Civics & Government- CONSTITUTION!! Understand and know definitions of government language and words like civics, government, popular sovereignty, bill of rights, articles of confederation, different government powers, characteristics of a responsible citizen. Knowing what political parties are and how they function as well as how the different governmental houses and parties/positions work together to function and run the country together. I will need to go over more definitions in this section of the test than others, as well as studying for the different government positions and how they are ordered when looking at power of positions. I will need a refresher on the electoral college and everything that goes in to the history of constitution, bill of rights, and articles of confederation.
Geography- Geography is mainly about the landforms and different locations, elements, and directions on earth/maps. I will have to study the types and purposes of maps, concepts of location, direction, distances, and go deeper into the specific items on maps and within geography like longitude and latitude, types of maps, directions, physical features, etc. Looking at human characteristics of places and how humans adapt to physical environments is a huge part of geography that I feel I will need to refresh on a lot before testing. This involves immigration patterns, trade relationships, directions of nations, natural resources, etc. Going into depth of studying the main ideas of cultures and the similarities and differences will be some main points within the test and I need to study material cultures, non-material cultures, dominant cultures, and again, resources that make cultures, what they are.
