INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH OPERATIONS

Planning and Operations

Institutional Research includes using data from institutional databases to assemble, analyze, and report information used for decision-making at all operational levels. In addition, we monitor the external environment to assemble a variety of information sources which are combined with internal information to support the institution in accomplishing its' mission.

Institutional Reporting

In institutional research, we are responsible for ensuring that required external reporting for national and state governance entities is completed in a timely and accurate manner. The entities we report to are the Kansas Board of Regents, the Higher Learning Commission, and the National Center for Educational Statistics (IPEDS). Internally, the reporting includes coordinating and implementing data collection and processes that inform the operations of the institution across the colleges, schools, departments, and administrative units.

Data Analysis and Institutional Support

Institutional reporting includes collection, assembly, analysis, and presentation of data metrics using a variety of software tools including SPSS, SQL Developer, Tableau, and Microsoft Excel. We also provide training and consultation in the use of Microsoft Excel to assist individuals wanting to present and analyze their own data.

Collaborations

The institution-wide resources dedicated to data management and the capacity to build, capture, analyze, report and present complex data sets requires a collaborative environment which includes expertise from other campus operating units including Information Technologies, Business Administration and Finance, and the Registration and Financial Aid Offices. Coordinating data sharing is complex, and nurturing a congenial environment is paramount to effectively meeting the institutional research needs of the institution.
