FALL 2022

Logan glenn

Logan always goes above and beyond to ensure the students and staff of Emporia State University are listened to, acknowledged for who they are or what they represent, and recognized for the passion they have in their future endeavors. We are so glad to have Logan, and feel he has the Heart of a Hornet!

Michael Smith

I can't say enough about Michael. Even before ESU's restructuring happened, he has excelled in managing his department with dedication and loyalty to his staff and ESU. I've seen this exemplified during the last month. His department is being dramatically changed over the course of the next few months and his handling of this situation has been to support his colleagues while understanding the overall picture of the future of ESU and continuing to navigate that with the information he has been given. He is dedicated and works so hard day in and day out to ensure the departments that were most affected stay positive and continue to do their jobs for the students.

kathy landwehr

Kathy has been our fearless leader in the advising office, coordinating both our first year advising team and upper level advising team. From our student advising office in Plumb, to the BAC, Visser/Teachers College and HPER advisors, she has advocated for all of us, in addition to being student-centered and focused. As our senior director, she has organized team trainings with different departments across campus to help all of us become better trained. She meets with each of us one-on-one weekly, as well as in groups, and always is available to answer questions. She goes above and beyond with her time and assistance.

Brett McGlaughlin

Brett has gone above and beyond while helping prepare homecoming royalty candidates for the halftime presentation. He has made the process run smoothly and added extras that make the process special for the candidates. He takes his time to attend the rehearsal and makes a video of each candidate introducing themselves, and then has them play as they walk onto the field. He then gives further details about their accomplishments, telling which RSO nominated them. He makes it look easy, but he works hard to make every halftime run smoothly, but he goes the extra mile for homecoming royalty. I am so appreciative of his gift of service.

melissa Gerleman

Professor Gerleman makes class really enjoyable to come to, which is something that I value. She also encourages people to actually have the desire to focus into what she is saying, and makes me feel that I matter to her. She truly is a great example of having the Heart of a Hornet in my eyes.
