Peer Career Mentor Program

Do you enjoy seeing others learn and grow? Are you looking for an opportunity to develop professionally, while helping others do the same?

The application period has now closed.

The Peer Career Mentor (PCM) position takes the “students helping students” approach to career development, with specially trained PCMs providing high-quality assistance to fellow students.

An ideal candidate for the Peer Career Mentor program will have an interest in:

  • Helping others through education and leadership

  • Promoting the services and expertise provided by Career Services to other students and the campus community

All Peer Career Mentors will be required to complete a 10-hour Canvas training course plus observation hours, prior to providing independent assistance to students. Additionally, all PCMs will be required to attend a one-hour weekly group meeting throughout the semester. All Peer Career Mentors will be expected to:

  • Commit to serve two hours each week as designated “Drop In” hours. During this time, students will be able to stop by to meet with a PCM without a scheduled appointment.

      • During this time, PCMs may conduct Resume Reviews, provide feedback on LinkedIn and Handshake profiles, demonstrate/suggest resources, and assist in scheduling a follow-up appointment with a Career Counselor, when needed.

  • Attend at least one tabling event each semester (Black & Gold, Hornet Connection, E-Experience, Wellness Fair, etc.)

  • Serve as a resource expert, hosting at least one virtual training/workshop/demonstration on a resource offered by Career Services (Vault, GoinGlobal, Handshake, CareerSpots, etc.).

  • Present to classes, upon request, on topics of: Handshake and Career Services Overview

  • Assist with recruitment and interviews for next years’ Peer Career Mentors

As a Peer Career Mentor, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the Career Services staff, participate in ongoing professional development, gain insight into hiring trends and employability, and develop skills in key areas sought by employers, such as communication, professionalism, leadership, technology, and collaboration, all while helping other students! *All Peer Career Mentors will be eligible to receive Internship credit (without fees!) on their transcript.

*Transcript notation of internship is only available to undergrad students at this time. Graduate students may still apply for and participate in the program, but participation in this program will not appear on their graduate transcript.
