Majors in Minutes FAQs

What is it?
Often referred to as “speed networking,” Majors in Minutes gives students the opportunity to learn about different majors at ESU directly from students who are currently in those majors.

How does it work?
The doors will open promptly at 6 pm. Student representatives for each major will be seated at a table and attendees (YOU) will have 5 minutes to sit down across the table and ask any questions you might have about the major. At the end of 5 minutes, a bell will ring and you will leave the table. You then have the chance to sit down with another representative and learn about another major that interests you. If the chair across from the representative is already occupied, then you will need to wait until it becomes available at the next round. Meet with as many or as few representatives as you would like. This is a great chance to get the inside scoop about the different opportunities here at ESU from a real insider!

What do I need to bring?
Bring an open mind and a pen or pencil. Some students have found it help to write down questions they have in advance and bring that with them. If you are not sure what to ask, we will have some sample questions to help get the conversation started. You should also bring your student ID for quick and easy check-in.

What do I do if the person I want to talk to is already talking with another student?
That happens often, as there are more students attendees than there are representatives, so you may have to wait until the next round (in 5 minutes) before you can talk to a specific major representative. While you are waiting, you can find another representative to talk to, grab a snack at the refreshment table, drop your ticket in one of the prize boxes, or check out some information (and pick up some awesome swag) at the Career Services table!

Is there anything else I should know?

As a courtesy to your fellow students, please allow them the chance to visit with representatives individually. If there is an open seat available, feel free to sit down and chat, but if another student is already there, please do not hover over the shoulder of the student already at the table or otherwise jump into the conversation. You will have plenty of time to ask your questions when it is your turn.

Please keep in mind that this is not for advising course placement. Your advisor will be happy to answer those questions for you.

Be sure to drop your ticket(s) into the prize boxes! A live drawing will be held immediately following the event and you must be present to win!
