Students are expected to keep a practice record on which they list their practice time each week throughout the school year. Orchestra homework is practice! The practice record will be turned in each Monday along with a self-assessment journal entry that will be completed in class. Parent signature required to receive grade.
Practice Expectations (per week)
Prelude Orchestra (3rd, 4th and 7th period) - 90 minutes
Philharmonic Orchestra - 120 minutes
Chamber Orchestra - 180 minutes
Please accurately and honestly record your practice time each week. It is much better to be honest than to record a time amount that is inaccurate. Your accurate time data from your practice sheet is important in helping Ms. Harvey assess your progress throughout the year and determine if your practice methods and time seems to be effective for you as an individual.
Practice expectations are designed to ensure each student in each level of orchestra is successful at the level and amount of music they will be learning throughout the year, to ensure the continued progress and success of our ensembles, and to help our students remain competitive with students around our district, region and state. These time expectations are decided upon based on multiple factors, including Ms. Harvey's observations of student performance over years of teaching experience and comparisons of practice expectations among other middle school orchestra programs in the North Texas area.
