The Grand Canyon Suite is a five-movement symphonic composition by Ferde Grofé from 1929-1931, originally called Five Pictures of the Grand Canyon. It evokes the sounds and scenes of the Grand Canyon using orchestral textures like woodwinds for bird calls, percussion for animal sounds, and a wind machine for the environment. The five movements are "Sunrise," "Painted Desert," "On the Trail," "Sunset," and "Cloudburst." "On the Trail" is famous for depicting a cowboy on a burro with a solo violinist using glissando and scratch tone techniques.
