Sign up for orchestra as your 1st or 2nd choice elective during course selection time.
If you are continuing student (did 5th grade orchestra), keep your instrument and supplies over the summer (if you are renting from a music store). Most rental stores are on a rent-to-own program and you won't want to cancel your account and lose a year of credit by returning it for 2 months over the summer. At the start of 6th grade you will need the exact same supplies as in 5th grade. Ms. Harvey will re-size you at that time to see if you need a new size of instrument. You do not need to attend any instrument drive or sign-up meeting.
If you did NOT participate in 5th grade orchestra and have no experience on your instrument choice, you may sign up for orchestra on your course selection but please also check back here in April for an online form Ms. Harvey will post where you can request a meeting day and time to be sized for an instrument. Until then, start working on choosing what instrument you want to play using the links at the bottom of this page.

The best way to learn about all the ways orchestra is different in middle school is to explore our website, especially our Handbook and Calendar pages. Our handbook includes details of all of our policies and procedures in the orchestra program. Our calendar can give you an idea of the types of events we might be doing next year when you are a part of our orchestra program.

Students who participated in 5th grade orchestra will use the exact same supplies to start the school year that you did in 5th grade orchestra. Unless you have lost something from your previous year of orchestra, you will not need to get anything new at this time. Ms. Harvey will re-size all students at the beginning of 6th grade to determine if you need a new size of instrument for 6th grade.
Students who are beginners will need to choose an instrument and be sized for their instrument by Ms. Harvey. Ms. Harvey will contact your parents about attending a sizing meeting before schools starts using the contact information you provide on the online sign-up form that will be posted on this page in April. Please begin thinking about what your first choice of instrument might be. Use the resources below to learn more about the instrument choices and the supplies you will need for orchestra:
