Latin Competitions

There are several contests and competitions that some of our students will be involved in over the next few months. Since the registration forms and fees are all due very soon, I will be sending out information this week.

Tests For All Students

National Latin ExamMarch ?? - $5

*Most common and widespread of the tests

*Open to all students – last year we had 60 or so students take it – taken by thousands of Latin students around the world [138,000 participated in 2010 and 53,000 awards were given]

*Administered during school on one of the days prior to Spring Break [date TBA]

*45 minute test with 40 multiple-choice questions – list of topics can be found on the website or from MrsH

*win awards, medals, scholarships, etc

NLE $1,000 AWARDS -Applications for the $1,000 scholarships will be mailed to gold medal winners in Latin III-IV Prose, III-IV Poetry, or Latin V-VI who are high school seniors. Those who apply must agree to take at least one year of Latin or Classical Greek in college. A classics in translation course does not fulfill this requirement. In 2006, twenty-one $1,000 scholarships were awarded. These scholarships may be renewed.

What: 1 day long gathering of Latin students to take tests and show off other skills. There are tests over numerous topics, as well as competitions for art, costume, writing, speaking and others.

How Much: $10 - students provide own transportation
