The easiest way to do the translations:
The easiest way to do your translations is to use the textbook. It has all the text, notes, and vocab in one place so you don't have to click back and forth or bounce around different resources.
Instead of hand-writing the text, you can pull the text off thelatinlibrary.com and paste it into a word document. I generally triple space it and write my translations on the right-hand side of the page. Experiment with what spacing and layout works best for you.
If that's just not working for you, you can try the following:
1. Open up the Perseus version of The Aeneid in Latin here. On the right-hand side of the page, you will notice notes sections and translations section. If you click "load," it will bring them up in the side bar so you can see both. [The translations is lovely, but not literal.]
2. Within the Perseus Latin text, when you click on a word, it will open a window with the definition in it. Oftentimes, they will not make sense. You will see a link marked "show Lexicon entry"...those are the dictionary entries with examples...you may need to use those. Elem.Lewis is shorter, Lewis and Short is the longer/more options version.
3. If you really get stuck, go to the Vergil Project Page. It's a bit overwhelming, but it can help tell you exactly what a word is doing if you get stuck.
