Opportunities

Looking for more ways to get involved with Cadence, the electronic design automation industry, or for ways to get recognition and take advantage of your new skills? Check out some of the opportunities below!

Technical Conferences

If you're a student, professor, or researcher looking to submit and present papers based on your work using Cadence's design tools, check out Cadence's events website to see a list of upcoming events online or worldwide that cover a range of topics for everything related to electronics design automation (EDA). These events are mostly Cadence sponsored, and the others are events that are general to the EDA industry but have the special interest of Cadence.

Another great opportunity to look into is the Design Automation Conference, which is the premier technical conference for the electronics design industry with highlighted areas relating to machine learning/artificial intelligence, EDA, embedded systems, designing on the cloud, and more! Their website contains a lot more information on the different speaker events, exhibitions, and student opportunities that the DAC has to offer. Additionally, there is a section of the conference targeted specifically to undergraduate and graduate students that includes design competitions, hacking competitions, and even opportunities for grants and scholarships. Find more info for this on their Students & Scholarships webpage.

Cadence Intern and Entry Level Positions

Interested in an incredible opportunity to work at Cadence? Cadence Design Systems is offering undergraduate internships and new college graduate entry-level positions this in August 2024! The number of positions for these opportunities will be determined this summer. In 2023, Cadence hired 3 of their 27 interns and 2 of their entry-level new college grads from Clemson, and you could be next! Boost your chances of securing a position with Cadence by engaging in self-paced training and accumulation digital badges as concrete evidence of your skills using the resources available on this site. Don't miss out on this fantastic chance to kickstart your career!

For the internship positions, the selected students will spend their summer in San Jose, California - the heart of Silicon Valley, where they'll spend 10-12 weeks of immersion in Cadence. This program includes opportunities for both hardware and software development engineers.

For the new college graduate positions, selected students will be located at one of Cadence's many US sites. This full-time position will give new graduates the opportunity to spend their first year at Cadence focused on two different technical areas. This entry-level Application Engineer program is targeted at graduating students who want to get into the EDA industry, but who isn't quite sure of where in the industry they might fit.

Ideal candidates will have many of the following on their resume:

Clemson students interested in Cadence positions are encouraged to spend this summer updating and bolstering their resume by completing some of Cadence's self-paced online courses to be ready to apply for the positions in August with a demonstrated set of skills and interest in Cadence. Information regarding these intern and new grad positions can be found on Cadence's Interns and New Grads site, and more information on these specific positions will be posted as it becomes available. The applications are expected to open in August of 2023, and are likely to fill by mid-October 2023.

Below is a communication we received from David Haeussler, a Clemson Grad ('87 and '89) at Cadence, regarding internship and full-time opportunities open to Clemson students:

"The long-promised but yet-to-emerge Cadence job postings are finally visible on the Cadence website.  Links for the intern and new college grad positions can be found at:

Intern - https://cadence.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/Univ_Careers/job/SAN-JOSE/WFO-Application-Engineer-Intern_R44114

NCG - https://cadence.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/Univ_Careers/job/SAN-JOSE/Application-Engineer---New-College-Grad_R44174

The NCG (New College Grad) positions list San Jose only as the site, but we will be hiring for all Cadence major US locations (San Jose, Austin, Raleigh, Pittsburgh, Boston).  Use this link to apply, and we will figure it out on the Cadence side for location.  The intern position will be in San Jose only. It will be similar to what Tripp Herlong described during the Cadence Night Event (Video link to hear more about Cadence Intern/full-time job experience from Clemson students:

Intern and entry-level positions for other parts of Cadence are also starting to get posted.  Look under

 https://www.cadence.com/en_US/home/company/careers.html

This internship position is the same position as the internship that is guaranteed for the Clemson Cadence Challenge winner from Clemson.  There will be a total of 25 interns hired for this program.  We can definitely have more than one student from Clemson get an internship (we had three last summer).  I do not get to select the students for these internships, but happy to provide any mentoring (dhaeuss@cadence.com) on how someone can get themselves noticed by the team making the selections.
