Class Codes to join the platform from Google Classroom are linked in the post titled "ReadWorks". Once activated, the application will no longer need the code.
Please note that the passages from ReadWorks are supplementary materials designed to support your child’s reading development. These activities are not graded and will not affect your child’s report card. The goal is to encourage regular reading and build knowledge in a low-pressure, enjoyable way.
Builds Background Knowledge: Article-A-Day sets expose students to a wide range of topics, helping them develop background knowledge essential for reading comprehension across subjects.
Daily Reading Habit: By reading a short article every day, students build consistent reading routines and stamina.
Vocabulary Growth: Each article highlights key vocabulary in context, supporting word learning and retention.
Improved Comprehension: Short, focused passages with follow-up questions help students practice summarizing, identifying main ideas, and making inferences.
Knowledge Journals: Students can write or type what they learned after each article, reinforcing understanding and written expression.
Accessible for All Levels: Articles are available at various reading levels and can be assigned to match each student’s ability.
Audio Support: Many articles have a read-aloud feature, supporting students who benefit from hearing text as they read.
Family Engagement: Article-A-Day sets can be read and discussed at home, encouraging family participation in daily literacy growth.
Easy Teacher Progress Monitoring: Teachers can track student participation and comprehension through the platform.
After your child reads each article (especially in the Article-A-Day sets), they are prompted to write a brief response about something new or interesting they learned. These responses are saved in their personal "Book of Knowledge." Over time, this collection grows, showing all the facts, ideas, and vocabulary your child has gathered from their reading.
How it helps:
Encourages kids to think about and remember what they read
Builds writing skills by having them summarize in their own words
Lets teachers and families see their progress and understanding
Helps students make connections between different topics
Parents can encourage their child to take a few minutes after each article to write in the Book of Knowledge, and review it together to celebrate learning and growth.
