The order of operations is the rule we use to decide the order in which parts of a math problem are solved so that everyone gets the same answer. A common way to remember it is with PEMDAS:
P – Parentheses → Do what’s inside grouping symbols first ( , [ ], { }, fraction bars).
E – Exponents → Solve powers and roots next.
M – Multiplication
D – Division → Work left to right for multiplication and division.
A – Addition
S – Subtraction → Work left to right for addition and subtraction.
👉 Example:
3+6×(5+4)÷323 + 6 × (5 + 4) ÷ 3^23+6×(5+4)÷32
Parentheses: 5+4=95 + 4 = 95+4=9 → 3+6×9÷323 + 6 × 9 ÷ 3^23+6×9÷32
Exponents: 32=93^2 = 932=9 → 3+6×9÷93 + 6 × 9 ÷ 93+6×9÷9
Multiplication/Division left to right: 6×9=546 × 9 = 546×9=54; 54÷9=654 ÷ 9 = 654÷9=6 → 3+63 + 63+6
Addition: 3+6=93 + 6 = 93+6=9
Final Answer = 9
