Troubleshooting Tips

Computer frozen?

  • If it has been more than a minute, you could try a "hard restart."

  • Hold the power button down until the computer turns off. Wait 10 seconds, then power on.

  • PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL LOSE ANY UNSAVED INFORMATION WHEN YOU RESTART.

Wi-Fi not connecting?

  • Laptops:

    • First check the "switch" on the side of the computer. Make sure it is turned on and not red.

    • Not seeing any wireless networks? Try restarting the computer.

    • Seeing wireless networks? Make sure the password you are entering is correct. Click "Show Password" to see what you are typing.

  • Desktops do not have WiFi by default. You connect to the internet using a wired "Ethernet" cable.

    • Add WiFi by purchasing a wireless card from the Free Geek Store.

Battery life on a refurbished computer

  • On a refurbished computer, battery lifetime won’t be out-of-the-box status. Expect it to have between 70-90% of original capacity.
