A horrific bicycling accident should have killed Ron Gold in 2011, but instead, he survived more than two dozen life-threatening surgeries after a sleeping driver plowed into him on a quiet country road. The tragedy left Ron paralyzed with a permanently crushed spine and instantly cut short his successful career on Wall Street.
Following his accident, Ron has figured out a way to address America’s broken home care system and thoughtfully change the way families hire home health aides. As someone who needs home care himself each day, Ron’s answer was to create LeanOnWe, a managed marketplace that allows families to find, employ, and manage experienced and highly recommended caregivers. Ron and his wife, Betsy, conceived of the idea, and then brought on the team to execute it. He raised the initial funding and developed the marketing channels and industry partners.
Prior to the accident, Ron enjoyed a 25-year career on Wall Street, most recently at Barclays, and Lehman before that. As a Managing Director, Ron ran the Institutional Sales desk for Asian Equities sold in the U.S. After Lehman’s fall, Ron successfully rebuilt a stronger sales team at Barclays. Concurrent with managing the desk, Ron remained a consistent top revenue producer.
Ron graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with dual B.S. and B.A. degrees from the Wharton School and the College of Arts and Science, and holds an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School. He spends his leisure time as a para rower and handcyclist and supports numerous foundations working for a cure for paralysis. You can follow his ReWalk journey on Substack.
Ron has been featured extensively in the national print media including Forbes, Fast Company, The Pennsylvania Gazette, Huffington Post, and New York Post; in broadcast interviews with FiOS 1 TV News, PIX11, and Ideas and Insights, Good Day Orange County, NorthJersey.com. and will be profiled in the upcoming book, “Falling To Grace: Guideposts on the Road to Redemption.”
