Bill Spade is a lifelong New Yorker. He attended Seton Hall University, graduating in 1981. In January of 1984 he was sworn in as a New York City police officer. Serving the NYPD for nearly two years, Bill then switched over to the New York City Fire Department, a job he had always wanted since early childhood. He worked in downtown Manhattan as a firefighter for nearly six years before transferring to an elite rescue company based out of Staten Island. Bill worked in Rescue Company #5 for about ten years, responding to many major events throughout New York City over that time. He was on duty September 11th and responded along with eleven other members from his company. Bill was the only surviving member from his company. Bill openly talks about his life after 9/11, dealing with survivors' guilt, being a father to two young boys and the counseling that got him through.
Bill has given over two hundred tours of the World Trade Center site, is a frequent keynote speaker, and is currently a docent at the 9/11 Memorial Museum, where he commits to making sure we never forget about the events of September 11th.
