FPOS EMR Assistant ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension designed to assist clinical informatics professionals working within the eClinicalWorks (ECW) electronic medical records platform.
Data Collection and Use
The Extension does not collect, transmit, store, or share any user data or patient data with any external server or third party.
All processing performed by the Extension occurs entirely within the user's local browser session. This includes:
• Reading visible page content from the active ECW tab to extract clinical values (e.g., lab results, vitals, demographics) for use in calculators displayed within the Extension's side panel.
• Temporarily holding text in the browser's clipboard when the user explicitly clicks a "Copy" button. This data never leaves the user's device except via the clipboard action initiated by the user.
• Performing HIPAA Safe Harbor de-identification of pasted text locally within the browser. No identified or de-identified data is transmitted externally.\
The Extension does not use cookies, analytics, tracking pixels, or any form of persistent storage beyond the current browser session.
HIPAA and Patient Privacy
The Extension is designed with HIPAA compliance in mind. All clinical data handling occurs locally and is never transmitted outside the user's browser. Users are responsible for ensuring their use of the Extension complies with their organization's HIPAA policies and applicable law.
Permissions
The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
• activeTab and scripting — to read the text content of the currently active ECW tab for calculator input parsing. This permission is used only when the user explicitly clicks “Process Page.”
• clipboardWrite — to copy result narratives to the clipboard when the user explicitly clicks a copy button.
The Extension also requires access to one external hosts: the practice's ECW instance (to support the scripting permission on patient chart pages). No patient data is transmitted to either host.
No permission is used to monitor browsing activity, collect data, or operate in the background.
