FPOS Med Calc — Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 22, 2026
Overview
FPOS Med Calc is a Chrome browser extension designed to assist clinicians with cardiovascular and hepatic risk calculations within the eClinicalWorks (ECW) electronic health record system. This privacy policy describes how the extension handles data.
Data Collection
FPOS Med Calc does not collect, store, transmit, or share any data of any kind. The extension has no backend server, no analytics, no telemetry, and no external network connections.
Data Processing
All processing occurs exclusively on the user's local device within the browser. When the extension detects a patient visit note, it reads the text content of the active ECW page solely to populate clinical calculator fields (AHA PREVENT 2023, FIB-4, CHA₂DS₂-VASc, and HAS-BLED). This text is processed in memory and is never written to disk, logged, cached externally, or transmitted over the network.
Patient Health Information
Although the extension operates within a clinical environment where protected health information (PHI) may be present on screen, it does not extract, store, or transmit any PHI. Data read from the page exists only transiently in browser memory for the duration of the active session and is discarded when the tab is closed or navigated away from.
Clipboard
When a clinician clicks a results box to copy a clinical narrative, the extension writes a locally generated text string to the system clipboard. This string contains only risk score outputs (e.g., calculated percentages and risk categories) — not patient identifiers or raw chart data. The extension never reads from the clipboard.
Local Storage
The extension uses the browser's localStorage solely to remember the screen position of the floating calculator button between sessions. No clinical data, patient information, or calculated results are stored in localStorage.
Permissions
The extension requests only the minimum permissions necessary for its function:
activeTab — to read the text of the current ECW page for calculator field population
scripting — to inject the calculator interface into the ECW page
clipboardWrite — to copy generated narratives to the clipboard at the user's explicit request
Host permission (https://xxxxxx.ecwcloud.com/*) — to limit all extension activity exclusively to the practice's ECW instance
Third Parties
FPOS Med Calc does not integrate with, communicate with, or share data with any third-party services, APIs, or vendors.
