The Extension is a Chrome browser extension designed for use by medical practice staff. It adds a side panel to the eClinicalWorks (ECW) EMR that provides five tools: Report Summarizer, CAC Score Writer, DI Review, Lab Review, and Document Management.
The Extension does not collect, store, transmit, or share any user data with the developer or any third party. Specifically, the Extension does not capture personally identifiable information for the developer, does not transmit patient health information to any external server, does not store authentication credentials, does not use usage analytics or advertising trackers, and does not communicate with any server other than ECW's own and the read-only configuration sources described below.
To perform its functions, the Extension reads content directly from the active ECW browser tab, including:
Diagnostic imaging, lab, and other report text displayed in the currently open report modal (used by Report Summarizer, CAC Summarizer, and DI Review to generate a summary or score)
Diagnosis codes and order names on the current patient chart (used to detect report type and route to the correct tool)
Provider and staff fields (used to auto-fill document assignment)
This information is processed entirely in memory within the user's browser. Generated summaries, scores, and extracted text are written back only into ECW's own input fields, or copied to the system clipboard when the user chooses to do so — never written to disk, logged, or transmitted anywhere other than back to the ECW instance.
The Document Management tool can capture a screenshot of the visible ECW tab, or a user-selected region of it, and extract text from that image using Tesseract, an open-source OCR engine bundled with the Extension. This processing runs entirely on the user's device, inside the browser — no screenshot or document image is ever uploaded to an external server.
Document Management loads a provider-to-staff assignment list from a Google Sheet containing only provider and staff names — no patient data. This list is cached in memory for the current session only.
The Extension saves a small amount of practice-configuration data in the browser's local storage, including the OCR region-selector's last position, the user's preferred provider, and user-defined routing rules and lab reference ranges. None of this data includes patient information, and none of it is transmitted anywhere — it remains on the user's own device.
The Extension requests sidePanel, activeTab, scripting, clipboardRead, clipboardWrite, tabs, windows, webNavigation, and storage permissions, along with host access to the practice's ECW domain and to Google's Sheets/Docs/Apps Script services. These permissions are used solely to display the side panel, read and inject content in the active ECW tab, copy and paste summarized text, and retrieve the staff-assignment spreadsheet — the minimum required to perform the Extension's functions.
Other than the on-device OCR engine (Tesseract) and the read-only Google Sheet described above, the Extension does not integrate with any third-party services or analytics platforms.
The Extension is intended for use by licensed medical practice staff only and is not directed at or designed for use by children.
This policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be posted here with a revised effective date. Continued use of the Extension after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
Questions about this policy should be directed to the practice administrator responsible for deploying this Extension.
