Stop by the Foxhound Theatre to meet Mrs. Brower, learn more about the plans for our renewed voice program, experience a mini voice lesson, or just to say HI!
Rachel is a mixed media visual artist, currently living and working in Austin, TX. After graduating from Foxcroft, she went on to Davidson College for her BA in Studio Art, then to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for an MFA in 2018.
Rachel’s artist statement describes her work this way, “Through drawing, painting, sculpture, and installation, Rachel creates experiences that leave behind traces of her touch. Her process gives space to nuance and subtle gestures through tactility, abstraction, and material experimentation. She draws inspiration from the seen and unseen of the Christian faith as well as the beauty and decay of nature. She reconsiders and reflects on the intersections between the relational and internal.”
In late 2020, Rachel released her virtual art exhibition experience: Stillness, What Lies Beneath. Her current installation is part of the Cage Match Project and is underway, which you can take a sneak peak here. You can also read more about Rachel on her Artist Website.
Formed in 1993, Washington Performing Arts Children of the Gospel Choir (COTG) has become a destination choir for local students who look to develop excellence in artistry and technique as a performance ensemble. Chosen through a competitive audition process, choir members from D.C., Maryland, and Virginia commit to participating in a year of choral training, intensive workshops, and a variety of performances on Washington Performing Arts’s main stage and through community events. The COTG program provides opportunities for youth in grades four through 12 and promotes an environment of self-confidence, teamwork, and respect.
Under the leadership of Artistic Director Michele Fowlin, the Children of the Gospel Choir have been featured at the White House (with Sara Bareilles at the Canadian State Dinner honoring Prime Minister Justin Trudeau); the Inaugural Prayer Services for President Barack Obama and the National Memorial Service for Nelson Mandela, both at The Washington National Cathedral; the Washington Performing Arts Gala with Broadway star Matthew Morrison; the historic Howard Theatre; the U.S. Department of State; and on NBC’s Today.
