Music Theory I
One Semester, 1/2 Credit
This course teaches the fundamentals of music with special emphasis on the building blocks of composition and ear training. Students master basic notation, key and time signatures, and chord structure. They develop aural skills, such as internal training, and rhythmic and melodic dictation. This course is offered based on student interest. Students begin to learn basic composition, studying four-part writing and chord analysis. There is a strong emphasis on ear training and an introduction to sight singing. Students in this class compose and perform an original piece for the class at the end of the semester. (This course is offered based on student interest and may be taken several times for credit. Students enrolled in this course will have the option to take the AP exam.)
