01.01.010 Determine two or more themes or central ideas of a text and analyze their development over the course of the text and/or across genres, including how they interact and build on one another to produce a complex account or analysis; provide an objective paraphrase or summary of the text; draw conclusions by citing strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of both explicit and inferred text.
01.01.020 In literature, analyze the impact of the author’s choices regarding how to develop and relate elements of a story or drama (e.g., where a story is set, how the action is ordered, how the characters are introduced and developed). In informational text, analyze a complex set of ideas or sequence of events and explain how specific individuals, ideas, or events interact and develop over the course of the text.
01.03.010 In literature, analyze multiple textual or artistic interpretations of a story, drama, or poem (e.g., recorded or live production of a play or recorded novel or poetry), evaluating how each version interprets the source text when relevant.
03.01.020 Apply a writing process to effectively compose argumentative, informative/explanatory, and narrative text using precise and vivid words and phrases, domain-specific vocabulary, and writing techniques such as sensory language, figurative language, and rhetorical devices to manage the complexity of the topic and/or convey a vivid picture of the experiences, events, setting, and/or characters.
Unit Tasks
_ -Write an essay connecting Beowulf to our modern world through
-Dialectical Journal (track the literal, figurative, political, religious, sexual, philosophical)
-Participate in class discussions: verbal and digital
-Analyze the piece using Mythological/Jungian Literary Lens: Mythological Criticism views literature through the lens of myth, with archetypes (hero, villain, scapegoat), classic plot structures (journey, quest, loss of innocence) and symbolism (typically of nature) permeating the text. Think about an essay that would look at Hamlet as an archetypal hero or examine symbolism in the play.
