This example of creation based learning is designed to give students the opportunity to guide their own learning on any topic that relates to WWII. Students can pick anything from an individual, to a particular battle, to the type of toys kids played with during the war. The focus is not on what the teacher wants them to learn. Instead the focus is on what the students want to learn.
For this assignment, students created original content based on their research on their topic. They then work to create a website to share their content and add supporting images and videos to support their content.
SSWH19 - Demonstrates an understanding of the global, political, economic, and social impact of WWII.
1-2 weeks
Google Sites, itslearning discussion boards...and the interwebs!
Students receive instructions on how to create their website and are turned loose to implement the creative skills they have learned and honed throughout the year.
Work is then submitted via itslearning and feedback is provided to suggest continout improvement.
Throughout the year, students have received feedback from their teacher and peers. This feedback helps them make adjustments and improve their creation/presentation skills. Upon completion of their website, students share their work with their peers in the discussion forum in itslearning. Top level projects are also shared with the student's parents/guardians and on Twitter...with student approval.
