The students were asked to follow a set scientific methods for determining three things...
Height
Velocity
Angle of impact
...in order to develop an understanding for how forensic scientists identify the origin of a suspicious blood droplet or spatter pattern.
Students were asked to drop a substance that simulates blood from five different heights. The procedure called for the students to make their drops straight down, perpendicular to the floor.
The students were instructed to follow a set of instructions that help them find at least five different angles of impact for blood spatter.
The final outcome being a scale that they can use to help identify the angle of impact of mystery blood stains.
In this third and final procedure students were encouraged to explore alternative blood spatter patterns and attempt to recreate those patterns. They were required to then write a procedure explaining how someone can recreate their experiment.
