The goal of the Forsyth Central High School Audio/Video Tech & Film pathway is to train students in the various phases and departments of Film & Cinema production in order to prepare them to directly enter the rapidly growing film industry in the state of Georgia or continue on to post-secondary education in a film program at one of our numerous Colleges and Universities. With instruction in Development, Pre-Production, Principle Photography, and Post-Production, students will be able to work effectively in all phases of production the film industry needs.
NAME AND DESCRIPTION OF EACH COURSE TAUGHT IN PROGRAM AREA
A/V Tech & Film I - Based on the high school curriculum developed by the Georgia Film Academy for the State of Georgia Department of Education, this course will serve as the foundational course in the Audio & Video Technology & Film pathway. The course prepares students with instruction in all departments and positions in filmmaking as well as knowledge of how they work together and how the industry itself operates. Topics covered may include, but are not limited to: terminology, safety, basic equipment, script writing, camera operation, lighting, location sound, Set design and decoration, props, hair and makeup, editing, studio production, on-set etiquette, and professional ethics. Skills USA is the student career tech organization that provides leadership training and/or for reinforcing specific career and technical skills and may be considered an integral part of the instructional program. All material covered in Audio & Video Technology & Film I will be utilized in subsequent courses. Students may take AV 1 at any point in their high school career, but it is recommended to begin Freshman year. Students who are enrolled in the Arts & Entertainment Institute at Forsyth Central High School are required to take AV 1 Freshman year.
A/V Tech & Film II - In this course students begin using the skills learned in AV 1 to create finished productions. Students learn to work in crews on productions they must prepare and pitch for approval before they may begin filming. Crews lean how to operate in the same manner as industry prescribed hierarchies as well as how to schedule for and meet production deadlines. Topics include Planning, Writing, shot lists and storyboarding, location scouting, public speaking, Directing and Editing a Production, Operational Set-Up and Maintenance, Advanced Editing Operations, Studio Productions; Performance; Audio/Video Control Systems; Production Graphics; Career Opportunities; and Professional Ethics. Students also begin work on filming and/or live-streaming live events for various school activities. A/V Tech & Film III - In this course, students use what they have learned in AV 1 and AV 2 to begin work on more ambitious productions. They will also study for the Adobe Premiere Pro Certification test, which is the End of Pathway Assessment for the pathway, and can earn an industry certification upon completion of and passing of this test. It is expected at this level that student work will be submitted to film festivals in and around the state of Georgia. All student made work must be completely original. Students work cooperatively and independently in all phases of production. Topics include advanced camera techniques, audio production, scriptwriting, producing, directing, editing, employability skills, and development of a digital portfolio to include resume’, references, and production samples.
