Assignment 13: Partner in Your Education

In regards to your internship site, explain how you feel they are a “partner in your education”.

  • What goals have you met so far? Have you changed any of your goals?
  • Have you learned about new jobs or careers while at your internship? If so, what are they and what are your thoughts about them?
  • What have you done that has made your supervisor’s life easier?

Throughout my internship, my mentor, Tina Black, has been extremely helpful in furthering my education. She consistently provides me with relevant information relating to each patient I come into contact with and she is always willing to answer any of my questions relating to the field of OT. So far in my mentorship I have met my goal of being fully engaged in each session, and I will continue to do this throughout the rest of my time at Essential Therapy Clinic. I have also met my goal of networking with several therapists in my future field. Initially I planned to primarily shadow Tina and work with kids diagnosed with cerebral palsy (CP). Since beginning my internship I have been fortunate enough to shadow five OTs, PTs, and speech therapists and work with kids diagnosed with spina bifida, social anxiety, downs syndrome, speech delays, torticollis, autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and anger management issues. My internship has furthered my understanding of the OT field while opening my eyes to PT and Speech Therapy. Although none of these fields were "new" to me, my internship has drastically increased my exposure to these fields and therefore I am much more knowledgeable of each of them and their impacts on childrens' lives.
