PKMS PE Footwear Policy
Purpose:
To ensure student safety and full participation during Physical Education (PE) classes by establishing clear expectations for appropriate athletic footwear.
Required Footwear:
Students are required to wear sneakers in order to participate in PE class.
Definition of Sneakers:
Sneakers are defined as closed-toe, rubber-soled athletic shoes that provide proper support, grip, and cushioning for physical activity. They must:
Fully enclose the foot (no sandals, crocs, slides, or slip-ons)
Have laces or secure fastenings to keep the shoe in place
Be designed specifically for physical activities such as running, jumping, and sports
Non-Compliant Footwear Examples Include (but are not limited to):
Sandals, flip-flops, crocs, boots, flats, dress shoes, or any type of footwear not intended for physical activity
Consequences for Non-Compliance:
First Offense:
Documented as a warning
Student completes an alternate assignment: bodyweight circuits and a written reflection or task during class
Second Offense:
Parent/guardian will be contacted via phone call
Student continues with bodyweight circuits and a written assignment for the class period
Third Offense and Beyond:
Student will lose points from their overall PE grade
Student will still complete bodyweight circuits and a written assignment
Rationale:
Proper footwear is essential for student safety and effective participation in physical education. This policy is designed to promote accountability, readiness, and safe physical activity.
Note:
Medical exemptions must be accompanied by a valid doctor’s note and will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.Please ensure you come prepared for PE each day. Participation and preparation are key to success!
