Gain Experience

It's never too early to start building your resume!

You don't need a full-time position to start that process.

A part-time job will not only earn you spending cash, but it will also help you gain real-world experience that looks great to a future employer on a resume (and in college admissions too!)

Seek out positions that will help you gain skills that will benefit your future career, help you explore areas of interest and match up with your schedule.

Looking for a job right now?  Check out our part-time job board.

Volunteer

Volunteering allows you to give back to the community and make a difference - but it also looks great on a resume and helps you build great skills.

Donate your time, skills and talents to organizations that align with your values or resonate with future career aspirations.  You'll also begin networking with community members who can connect you with future opportunities.

Susan Brackett - Work-Based Learning Coordinator, Fort Mill School District

Ms. Brackett helps students in the Fort Mill School District high schools meet professionals doing the work they hope to do some day. This should help them better plan their next move after high school ~ on-the-job training, 2-year or 4-year college, apprenticeship or military. Students with a "sincere curiosity" in a specific field can work with Ms. Brackett to find opportunities to explore their interests through observation, job shadowing, internships and/or apprenticeships.
